US stocks close sharply higher and at record highs


S&P, Dow and NASDAQ closed at record highs

The major indices all closed at record highs on President Biden’s inauguration day. The NASDAQ index led the way with a gain of 2%. Netflix led the charge with a gain of 16.85% after their subscriber base surprised on the upside. Other FAANG-type names have also increased significantly. Alphabet increased 5.36%. Amazon rose 4.57%. Microsoft grew 3.59%. Apple rose 3.29%. Facebook grew 2.44%

The final figures show:

  • The S&P Index rose 52,941.39 percent to 3,851.05. The low reaches 3816.22. The highest was at 3859.75.
  • The NASDAQ index rose 260.07 points or 1.97% to 13,457.25. The peak reached 13,486.13. The low extended to 13,329.77
  • The Dow Jones rose 257.86 points or 0.83% to 31,188.38. The peak reached 31,235.98. The low extended to 30,997.79
  • The Russell 2000 Index is also trading at a record high of 2160.617. This represents an increase of 9.48 points or 0.44%
